Cracked Concrete Foundation Repair

Repairing Concrete Using (Ashpark™ ) Epoxy Injections. Concrete cracks are repaired using different techniques and methods, such as epoxy injection depending on how wide, long and/or deep the floor or wall crack is. Most of the concrete cracks are related to shrinkage and settlement, over stress such a example would be a vertical foundation settlement crack running down from a steel beam pocket and loading conditions and movements caused during original construction.

Epoxy Resin Injection / Cracked Concrete Foundation Repair

Some of these repairs are completed by using epoxy injections applied directly into the crack. The procedure is different and varies depending on the crack location and whether the concrete cracks are horizontal or vertical. Some cracks might require additional steps, but we will focus on concrete cracks repaired using epoxy. How to Use Epoxy to Repair Concrete Cracks. The recommended process of injecting epoxy into cracks might vary from one place to another but here are some general recommendations to follow when repairing concrete cracks. When cracks go through a concrete surface, and there is visibility from both ends /sides of the concrete element, the epoxy can be injected from both ends. Sometimes the application might require to make the epoxy more flowable or use different viscosity of epoxy material another method to inject the epoxy into the concrete. The contractor might also want to inject the epoxy more closely than usual so it gets a full penetration of material into the deepest part of the concrete crack. Before deciding whether or not to use the epoxy repair, you will need to confirm that the cause of the crack is solved and no further movement is permissible. When the concrete is still subject to additional movement, which is extremely rare then the epoxy injection process is possibly not recommended. Recommended Applications for the Concrete Repair Using Epoxy. There are some instances on which this process is not recommended. Some cracks or cracks that are previously attempted to be repaired before may not be repaired using this method, instead, consult your engineer / qualified contractor and determine whether some chipping /removal and is needed or even remotely helpful to perform a repair by epoxy. Typically when there is water into the crack and cannot be dried out at time of service call, it is best to rebook for another day when crack is not leaking . Concrete cracks due to corroded steel should not be repaired using the epoxy, as the steel will continue to corrode and new cracks will appear. Epoxy materials grades and different viscosity for concrete repair are available handling cracks up to about 5/8 inch wide. We start by cleaning the crack area extending up to 3 inch to each side of the crack. This is needed to secure a proper bonding to the existing concrete crack. The epoxy is injected using ports, 5 – 8 at a minimum, that eliminates the need for drilling. Drilling is never applicable to a proper professional epoxy injection .The ports are to be spaced properly allowing the epoxy to be injected at the right locations. There is recommended spacing for the ports along the concrete crack set out by a skilled and properly trained technician. Once the ports are installed, we will need to seal the the front face of the crack. We cover the concrete crack using an epoxy paste along the crack length that will dry in about 30 minutes. This paste needs to hold up during the pressure injection process. Epoxy Crack Injection is only suitable for cracks in poured concrete walls. Pricing for epoxy crack injection are different from company to company because there are hundreds of different grades (pricing is applicable to grade of material and manufacturer) of epoxy throughout the industry. Most often the most extremely reputable specialist’s type contractors will be using the best grade of materials available. Most contractors only promote polyurethane injections simply because their profit margins are typically much higher, especially if they are using a lower grade material. Costs for epoxy crack repairs are less controllable as more material could be used even on a hairline crack then what first estimated. Epoxy resin injection is one of the solutions for a crack in a basement wall and is arguably the best repair (ask any structural engineering firm).Maintain the ports at least for 7 days to insure all materials have fully cured.
